Police dept. commander selected; water painting; drive slowly, walk quickly...
New Police Department Commander - The City announces the selection of Lance Davenport as the new Police Department Commander. Lance has over 16 years of law enforcement experience, including six years as a Sergeant with the Mercer Island Police Department. Commander Davenport will begin employment with the City on Monday June 16th. Commander Davenport will be formally introduced to the City Council at an upcoming Council Meeting.

Silver Lake Water and Sewer District - Will start the demolition of the old water reservoir on Monday. The demolition will take approximately one week. Once the rainy weather stops, the artist will finish the tree mural on the new water reservoir.

Illegal Temporary Signs Enforcement - This Sunday, the City's Code Enforcement Officer will be patrolling the City removing illegal temporary signs. The emphasis will be illegal off-site real estate signs and church signs that are placed within the right of way. This enforcement is needed to address the increasing amount of illegal signs being displayed in the City, especially on weekends. Increased enforcement of the temporary sign regulations will also be occurring weekdays as long as the problem persists. Contact Tom Rogers, Planning Manager, if you have any questions.

9th Avenue SE Widening - The contractor continued on the west side of the roadway with new sidewalk and driveway work. Roadway paving and striping is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 16th, but is weather dependent.

Citywide Traffic Calming - Work began on the recently approved traffic calming contract this past week, and the contractor paved seven new speed cushions in the Silver Crest / Heatherwood West neighborhoods. In addition, two new medians, signage and striping work will be installed in that same area. Also included in the contract scope is striping work along Mill Creek Road and Seattle Hill Road, as well as minor changes at the Post Office cul-de-sac and Woodfern entrance.
